Insights are Koala’s answer to “what changed, why, and what should I do about it?” — surfaced for you instead of hunted for. Each one is explainable and evidence-backed.
You’ll meet insights in two places today: the Insight Panel on the dashboard narrates what’s driving the current view, and Ask Koala AI answers optimization questions like “show me optimization opportunities this month.” A dedicated insights view is emerging alongside them.

What an insight tells you

Every insight carries a consistent set of facts:
  • Impact — the amount and currency at stake.
  • Severity & confidence — how much it matters and how sure Koala is.
  • Time window & scope — the period and the part of your estate it applies to.
  • Drivers — what’s actually moving the number (the services, regions, or resources behind it).
  • Recommendation — the suggested action.
  • Explanation — a plain-language narrative that ties it together.

Always backed by evidence

Every insight includes its evidence — the query, the aggregates, and sample rows that produced it. The narrative is written by the AI, but the numbers are not: they come from SQL over your own data. See The evidence principle.
This is what separates a Koala insight from a generic alert: you can open it, see exactly which line items drive it, and trust the figure before you act.

What insights help you catch

  • Spikes and overage — costs rising faster than expected, month over month.
  • Cost drivers — the services, regions, or resources responsible for a change.
  • Waste and optimization — spend that looks reducible.
  • Trends for planning — patterns that inform budgets and forecasts.
